Jean Dunand:
‘Les Palmiers’ smoking room,
c.1930-36

Installation

The smoking room comprised of numerous lacquered and gilded wooden panels, including some clad in lacquered metal. The room came with basic plans, which made its assembly particularly challenging. Due to its fragile nature, the work’s structure could not be free standing so its installation required meticulous planning to use the gallery walls for support.
